Flourish underpads are designed for anywhere in your home where you spend time. Beds and upholstered chairs and sofas are among the most common places people use them, but Flourish pads are perfect for any surface you want to protect from bladder leaks, including the seat of your car or wheelchairs.
The number of incontinence pads you need to put down on your bed depends on the amount of urine leakage that you typically experience. Although Flourish pads can absorb up to 30 ounces of liquid, some people lose more than that over the course of a night in which case putting down two pads—one on top of the other— or having an additional safeguard in place (for example, wearing an adult diaper) is generally a good idea.
With a 30-ounce capacity, Flourish underpads can, in many instances, absorb most if not all of a full pee. But, for individuals with severe incontinence, it’s best to use incontinence pads along with an adult diaper, to absorb any urine that leaks through or around the edges of the diaper. Incontinence pads by themselves are also perfect for people who experience frequent small to moderate bladder leaks.
Although there are exceptions, Medicare does not typically pay for incontinence pads. In the instances where Medicare does pay, they usually cover only the least expensive pads, which generally aren’t well made or terribly absorbent.
A variety of things can make incontinence worse. For example, some people find that caffeine-containing foods and beverages as well as alcohol exacerbate their symptoms and that cutting back on them provides some degree of relief.
Wearing an absorbent pantyliner can be a great idea, particularly if you tend to leak only small amounts of urine. One of the great things about liners is that they protect the surfaces you sit on like couches and beds and keep your clothing clean and dry. However, sometimes (and often unexpectedly), liners aren’t enough and having an incontinence pad in place saves the day.
To keep skin dry and protected, incontinence pads should ideally be changed whenever they become wet. However, because it’s difficult to change pads at night, leaving them in place until morning is generally okay. If you tend to lose a lot of urine while you sleep, consider wearing an adult diaper to bed as an extra layer of protection.
